This year at SASS, we’re trying to take a serious look at our environmental impact, and making every effort we can to reduce it. Several plans are in the works for our operations down in Argentina this summer, and as we develop our newest branch, SGT (SASS Global Travel), we are looking to reduce the carbon footrpint of all of our trips. Our Rincon, Puerto Rico trip, taking place this April, will take place at "the hooches" outside of Rincon, which are a set of fully self-sustaining treehouses with solar electricity and solar hot water, and are built almost entirely out of bamboo, which is a rapidly-renewable resource because it is the fastest growing plant on Earth; it has been known to grow four feet in one day!
Our sustainability efforts stretch to our partners as well, and that is one reason we have decided to partner with Beverly, Massachusetts’ GreenWax. GreenWax uses a proprietary compound of natural ingredients for a wax that performs as well as its synthetic competitors but without the use of PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), a harmful chemical that the EPA is working to ban which accumulates in mountain streams (and then in us!) once it rubs off the base of your skis or board. They also package their wax in tubes made out of 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard with recycled plastic caps.
GreenWax just got a very positive write-up in Backpacker Magazine praising the performance, both on-snow and environmentally, of their wax. We’re stoked on what these Beverly boys have going on and are equally as excited to have them support us in our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our programs. Get stoked to slide around on some GreenWax this summer in Argentina!
