SASS at Mt. Snow & Stratton this weekend!

Hey kids! Come meet "Sneaky" Pete & Ryan "Dunfee" from SASS this weekend at the Peace Pipe Jam at Mt. Snow tomorrow (saturday), and Mountain MAYhem at Stratton on Sunday. SASS will be rolling up with the tent to provide needed shade for the competitors and prizes & stickers for the homies!

The weekend starts at 11 am on Saturday at the bottom of Carinthia, where Gaitor and the crew are going to roll out a double line with a rainbow box into a rollercoaster box and a flat box going into a down rail.  BBQ’ing will go down in ol’ Vermont fashion, and SASS and others will be handing out prizes for things like best trick and least annoying grom.  Then we’ll pack it up and head over to the Sun Bowl at Stratton, where all the snow from the US Open has been piled into another landing strip for jibs.  Mouuntain MAYhem starts at 10 am and registration starts at 9 am and is $20, or you can register online at Active.com.  Remember that helmets are required for Stratton.  Mt. Snow registration is free, but all you minors need to fill out a waiver which can be found here.  See all you guys this weekend!

Argentina Celebrates 200 Years of Independence

Most of you reading this won’t remember the US Bicentennial held way back in 1976.  Heck, I wasn’t born yet, but it was still a topic that we learned about in history class.  So I have a solid grasp on the party we threw when we hit 200 years of age.

Now it’s math time.  If the standard Argentinian parties 2 times as hard as the average American, and they celebrate their bicentennial in 2010, what will you get?

The Argentinian party of the Century!  The capital city of Buenos Aires came alive yesterday with all of the country toasting their 200 years of age!  Check out some of the photos below courtesy of Boston.com and then check out the rest here!

Pep Fujas & Michelle Parker K2 Skeeze Edit

The homies at BroBomb made us aware of this edit K2 put together of SASS homie and ski coach Pep Fujas for their movie "Skeeze."  Mostly Nimbus footage, with some new angles and footage.  With El Nino looking to pound South America with snow this summer, I’m going to do my best to match Pep’s faceshot count in this video, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.  Way to slay, Pep!

Here’s the full K2 Skeeze movie from the year before, which has some classic Michelle Parker footage and Pep going wild in the park in the last segment.  That switch misty mute is a trick we don’t get to see enough of out of Pep these days.

Michelle Parker on BroBomb

Michelle Parker got harrassed by SASS’s own Ryan Dunfee for a BroBomb interview, and she obliged with quips about the direction of women’s skiing, food, fashion, and the Garrett Russell Experience.  Check out what’s good with Michelle at BroBomb.com

SASS Taste of Argentina Superpost!

What happens when you mix carne, vino, a baller house, a lasso and a bunch of SASSers??? The Taste of Argentina Wine MIXER!

Photos by: Tommy Tikos

Last month, the SASS crew was in full force at Copper Mountain, Colorado for USASA Nationals. The days were spent hanging out at the SASS booth, meeting new friends, shredding around, and spreading the word about the amazing adventures SASS and Sierra Nevada College offer in Bariloche, Argentina.

In true SASS fashion, an incredible ski in/out chalet located on Copper Mountain was home-base for the week. The house, pristine upon arrival, needed to be broken in SASS fashion..

Can you say baller!?

New friends and future SASSer’s were invited to enjoy an evening of delicious Argentine comida y vino at the Taste of Argentina Wine Mixer. It was the perfect event to break in the house and show everyone what SASS and Argentina are all about!!

The house was stocked with tons of SASS and SNC swag.

Local gourmet meats and wines were purchased from EAT and DRINK specialty stores in Edwards, Colorado. Luke Shelly picked up the goods and then it was on for the awesome Asado.

The perfect mix, Malbec vino and ultra rare meat!

Thanks to Harry for grilling up the succulent beef. The flavors were just like an authentic Asado in Argentina.

Harry was an awesome asador doing it up right.

Sizzling meat.

MMMM- SO MEATY!

To round out the juicy meat, bold and spicy Argentine Malbecs and Chardonays were served.

Plenty of things to cheers about.

Bottle after bottle were uncorked and fun kept flowing.

The plates full of meat seemed endless and everyone enjoyed the choice cuts.

Delicious!!

Once the food comas set in, things got a little hazy, and a "SASS-Oing" started to unravel.. What in the world is a SASSoIng? Only at a SASS party-

Randell Stacy gets a taste of the Sasso!

Brian Angelone and the rest of the East Coast crew were in the mix.

The festivies kept on going late into the night and then it was time to grill up more carne, so Luke Shelly busted out the goods, skwered the beef and created a fantastic meal for everyone that was still up and about.

Luke preparing beef.

Luke showed everyone how to eat Argentinean style!

MMMM!

The Taste of Argentina Wine Mixer was a super fun event for past and present SASSers! Thanks to all who came out!

Sessions are almost full, but there are a few spots left to get in on the action and become apart of the SASS family this SUMMER. Head on over to the Packages section and see what incredible deals are still being offered!!

SASS Blows out the Hottest Womens Session!

We never settle here at SASS.  Last year, SASS had the best Womens Session out of any summer camp that we know.  With that in mind, we set out a few months ago to best what we did last season and create a Womens Session that measured up to our high standards.  We decided that Session 3 had what it took to handle all the ladies and (oops!) we did it again.  (Cue the Brittany Spears)

Chicas Only Comp

We started by bringing on Pro Coaches fit to teach any level of riding.  For snowboarders, we have Chanelle Sladics, Jamie Anderson, and Natalie Gough.  On the ski side, we have Michelle Parker and Kimmy Grant.  And we are still adding!  This is just the list for starters.

Robin Van Gyn getting some in the trees.

This will be a 15 day session for women to improve at all aspects of skiing & snowboarding. Time will be spent in the Andes in real winter conditions.  We will be riding terrain from big mountain and powder to the terrain park. There will be a strong back country safety component.  In addition, participants will have access to yoga classes, Spanish classes and a variety of Argentine cooking classes and cultural activities . Focused on balancing wellness with snowboarding/skiing and sustainability, there will include a community service project to benefit the residents of San Carlos De Bariloche.

In addition to the guest coaches, we will have special contests set up during the session that are open to the ladies only.  Sorry boys, but if you want to get involved in these comps, you will need to grow that hair out just a little longer.  Parties will be held on site to provide all the ladies a chance to unwind after a long day on the hill and mingle with other SASS travelers.  As if that wasn’t enough, each participant will walk away with a goodie bag full of swag from our sponsors.

And guys, don’t worry.  Session 3 is open to you as well!

If you haven’s already gotten involved, now it the time to check it out!  Check the packages at SAsnow.com and then sign up by clicking the "Register Now" button in the top right!

Mike Gardner named one of the Best Skiers in the World Under 18

Mike sending it!

Mike Gardner, who came to SASS as a coach-in-training last summer, was recently featured as one of the 20 “Best Skiers in the World Under 18” in Powder Magazine’s February issue.  A Telluride native, Mike trains with head ski coach Garrett Russell’s brother Chason on the Telluride Big Mountain team and has been on the up and up for a bit now, having won the Targhee Tee-Off in 2009 as well as placing 2nd at Snowbird’s Junior Nationals and 5th at the Telluride Freeskiing Open.

Mike came down to SASS last summer to experience our big-mountain ski program and to gain some valuable knowledge from our guides, Skylar Holgate and Kimmy Grant, as well as from our unbelievable ski coaches, such as Garrett, Michelle Parker, Dash Longe, and Pep Fujas.  Mike said that his time at SASS “was filled with long days on the mountain and late night in town, a dream lifestyle skiing deep powder in July and August with some of the nicest people in the world.”

With snow already falling in Bariloche weeks ahead of schedule and the El Nino storm cycle promising a summer of deep, deep snow in the Condor trees and the lines off of Nubes, Laguna, and the rest of Cerro Catedral, Summer 2010 is the time to GET YOURS.  The best of the best are coming to SASS this summer to get their fill.  The only question is: are you going to join them?  Give us a shout at the office (203.458.1632) to get setup for bottomless turns and the experience of a lifetime this summer.
