Monkey Explores Coffee Making Device

As you already know, for SASS Founder and Director of Finance John Sang Wilbur, ‘manffee,’ or man-coffee, is everything.  Thus, when a shiny red new coffee maker showed up in the SASS kitchen to replace a failing older model, John had to spend the requisite time familiarizing himself with the new device before giving it his monkey seal of approval…

Akomplice’s “Paint Pack” for Global Warming

The kooks over at Colorado’s Akomplice Clothing, who have long been holding CO streetwear to a high standard, have also always had a passion for saving the planet.  Part of that effort is a new collabo piece called the The Paint Pack, a project between Akomplice, LA fashion house Fred Segal, is simply that; a bucket of white paint, paintbrush, and accompanying t-shirt.  The idea revolves around the "heat island" effect, whereby black surfaces (roofs & roads principally) absorb heat and raise your building’s AC costs, and in cities, can actually produce a measurable increase in the outside air temperture, which everyone then has to deal with by cranking their car ACs, bulding ACs, etc.   White "cool" roofs can reduce the ambient temperture by 60 or 70 degrees compared to a regular black tar roof; insane!

The Paint Project is largely an effort to increase awareness about the issue and through a 10% donation of proceeds from the product, support Hashem Akbari’s "White Roof Alliance."  The Paint Pack can be bought for $27 on the AK store.  To find out more about the project, check out Paint The Globe.  Cool to see legit streetwear companies getting involved in collabos with a cause.

Frequency Mag covers the SGT TMH trip

Just ran into a Frequency Snowboard Mag article about the inaugural SGT trip to Skylar Holgate’s Treasure Mtn. Hut in Silverton, Colorado this February.  Many have you have probably already seen the video evidence from the trip, but Ben Eng caught some great photos of long-time SASS campers Brian Sullivan, Sean Ryan, Jack Kyle, and Randall Stacy sending it in the CO backcountry.  Check out the article here and get ready for the SGT TMH trip to go public on www.sassglobal.com this fall!

SASS is AWSM

Last week EXPN.com, besides catching Women’s Session Fevah, spent some time interviewing snowboarding lifer and Yobeat contributor Todd Richards about his new site, AWSM.com.  They review vaguely action sports-related things they think are (fill in the blank) and SASS made it in as one of the sickest places to travel!  SASS homie and Ski The East writer Tim Fater even made the review, GTS’ing it above Nubes!  Todd Richards thinks SASS is awesome… enough said.

Cerro Catedral Opens for Season

In one of the earliest openings ever on record, Cerro Catedral opened on June 20 for the 2010 skiing and riding season.  The recent amount of snow brought on by El Nino, has helped to start building the base for what will be one of the best seasons in recent history for the resort.

The stoke level here in the office has been super high.  Maybe it’s a combination of the World Cup, the snow falling in Argentina, and the huge amount of people signing up for their trip South this summer, but we are all very excited and as July 12 draws near (the date we all fly down to get the SASS Compound up and running), I can only imagine it will be like a 10 year old on Christmas Eve.

Andrew Whiteford Season Edit

Masshole and one of Line‘s upcoming big-mountain talents, Andrew Whiteford, has been absolutely crushing it in Jackson this season and has been logging all the gnar on his helmet cam.  Unlike most mutants today, he can actually put together an entertaining self-edit, and he recently posted his season edit on Vimeo, which opens up with one of the most impressive self-filming shots to date.  Don’t want to give away any more surprises, so be sure to check it out!  Gets me stoked to see what we can put together with our Contour HD POV cams and all the hot talent coming down to SASS this summer.

Gretchen Bleiler one of Planet Green’s Top 5 “Eco Athletes”

SASS home-girl and Olympian, etc. etc. Gretchen Bleiler was recently named 3rd in the Discovery Channel’s Planet Green top 5 "Eco Athletes" for 2010, up there with Lance Armstrong and Chinese dunk machine Yao Ming.  The article cites her work with The Climate Project, Natural Resources Defense Council, the Aspen/Snowmass Save Our Snow campaign, and StopGlobalWarming.org.  She is also designing a suit made out of 100% recycled polyester for SASS partner Oakley, which we can’t wait to get out hands on.  See?  Insanely talented & hot blonde snowboarders are fighting the good fight for our planet…. now there’s no more excuses why you shouldn’t!  Check out the websites of any of the above groups Gretchen supports and find out what you can do to help… because it’s your snow, too.
