How it Started

South America Snow Sessions (SASS) started as an idea of travelling, making new friends from around the world and chasing the dream of endless winter.
For those of us who eat, sleep and breathe skiing and snowboarding, one winter season was simply not enough. The three owners of SASS (John Wilbur, Travis Moore & Luke Shelley) wanted more out of the hot sweaty North American months of July & August. Dreams of powder lines, backcountry kickers and the Andes Mountain range took hold and South America Snow Sessions was born.

The initial idea for a Southern Hemisphere ski and snowboard camp was conceived in 2004 while John Sang Wilbur was doing an internship in Buenos Aires. After several snow seasons in Argentina, Switzerland and North America he had the idea that the Andes Mountains of Argentina would be an ideal location for a summer snow experience and an opportunity for people to develop their skiing and snowboarding skills while experiencing a new culture.

Selecting a team of experienced professionals, The first season of SASS began in Las Leñas and continued there through 2006.  Adding key staff members and coaches and expanding the camp and facilities, SASS moved in 2007 to the Cerro Catedral resort in Bariloche, located in the northern section of Patagonia, while staying in the Andes of Argentina that provide the setting for the experience of a lifetime.

Right away SASS knew they had made the right move with relocating. San Carlos de Bariloche offers an international airport, modern medical facilities, an unreal lake setting and tons of activities to do off the mountain. As a resort Cerro Catedral Alta Patagonia offers something for everyone.

The Cerro Catedral management is committed to reinvesting in improvements to the mountain every year, there is a modern base area, huge amount of terrain and more than 30 lifts and pomas provide access. Between the easily accessible backcountry in places like Laguna, the world class bosques (tree riding!), endless inbounds options and the vast improvements in the terrain park this season, SASS could not be happier in their new home.

More important than anything else… SASS is a Family. A family made up of individuals that share the passion and respect for the mountains that comes with countless years of experience in the snow. The staff at SASS is what sets us apart from all other camps and allows us to deliver the experience of a lifetime to all of our clients.
